Is Mounjaro® the Right Choice for Your Weight Loss Goals?
Tired of spending weeks, months, or even years dieting with little to no results? Millions of Americans struggle with weight loss, but now there is help. Clinically proven weight loss medications are available that are both safe and effective.

Every year, millions of Americans start a new diet with the hope of seeing their pant size shrink. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm is quickly dampened by the results. Many people lose very little weight and often regain more.

Fortunately, a new type of weight loss medication that is proven to be both safe and effective helps many achieve the results they wished for when they started dieting.

Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists and GIP receptor agonists. This dual action makes it different from other medications in its class. While other drugs, such as semaglutide, act only on GLP-1 receptors, Mounjaro works on two pathways, helping the body regulate both blood sugar and appetite with greater success.

Read on as our expert at North Tex MedCare Clinic & Urgent Care, Dr. Frank Lee, explains how Mounjaro works and what results you can expect, so you’ll have the information you need to make the right choice for your weight loss goals.

How Mounjaro compares to other medications

Research indicates that Mounjaro can lead to greater weight loss than other medications in its category. Many patients lose a higher percentage of their body weight compared to those taking semaglutide or other GLP-1 medications. This is partly due to its dual mechanism, which targets two hormones instead of one.

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) are two hormones produced in the gut that impact insulin and satiety signals from your brain, telling you when you are full. By targeting these two hormones, you become more insulin sensitive, which aids weight loss, and you feel fuller more easily.

What to expect when using Mounjaro

So, how does Mounjaro actually lead to weight loss? The medication works by:

  • Suppressing appetite
  • Slowing down how quickly food leaves the stomach
  • Reducing “food noise,” or the constant thoughts about eating
  • Improving the body’s ability to use insulin

When used consistently, individuals can lose up to 20 percent of their body weight. Side effects are often mild and manageable and may include diarrhea, constipation, stomach upset, and nausea.
